I am 28 days away from leaving to journey 9,200 miles to my destination of Sydney, Australia! I will be studying at Macquarie University which is just north of Sydney located in Macquarie Park.
Just a little over view-I was informed after a few weeks of the first semester of school this year that there was special placement discount that was going to knock $5,000 off the price of the trip which was and is awesome! The semester in Australia is from mid February- mid to late June. I will be abroad for just over 4 months. I will be leaving on Valentines day (February 14th) and I will land in Sydney two days later (February 16th). The classes that I am taking abroad are Introduction to global politics (POL 108), Introduction to World History (MHIS 115) both of those are going towards gen eds at Grand Valley. Then I am also taking my theme abroad so i am taking Introduction to Indigenous Australia (ABST 100), and Decisions, Decisions Practical Wisdom for everyday life (CUL 399). So, in total I am taking four classes abroad. I am hoping to go on lots of excursions to go surfing, snorkeling, and lots of other things that are in and around Sydney! The seasons in Australia are opposite, so right now in Sydney it is summer time! ALSO, both my parents, brother, and possibly my aunt are coming to visit me while I am in Australia for my spring break, which is two weeks long. When they are there I will hopefully show them around Sydney and also get a chance to go to New Zealand!
I am going to miss everybody from home so much! I have never been this far away from home for this long ever. So it will definitely be a life changing experience! Sydney is 16 hours ahead of Michigan so, keeping in contact will be difficult but in this blog I hope everyone finds it easy to stay in some sort of contact with me.
I hope to keep up with this blog and continually post pictures and updates on what is keeping me busy! Ally
